Imagine yourself out for lunch with a friend. You look over their shoulder and find one of your own works looking back at you. This is just what happened in a restaurant very close to Queen’s Park.Lady Di of Carp was the 3 year old Clydesdale Mare Champion at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in 1989. Her owner Stan Carruthers of Ottawa decided to have her win recorded with an original portrait. The portrait, in pen & ink + pencil crayon was only half the task. Next a smaller 8” x 10” black & white Ink version was needed, for letterhead, business cards with a numbered edition of 25. This special image went to his associates in the Clydesdale world.

The 2018 CanAm auction in support of Equine Guelph portrait was bought by the Culverhouse family of Kapuskasing. That's a long way from Toronto. Too far for a casual drive and still very snowy.. So, I captured a series of images of Isabelle while at CanAm. And, gave the family specific instructions on how to capture the reference photos needed to make a portrait. Lighting angles, quality of images, (no cell phone selfies), subject angles and details. Following the instructions the family provided about 100 reference shots of Isabel & Buckshot.
The Culverhouse's received Isabelle & Buckshot Tuesday September 4, 2018.

Tess 16" x 11" watercolour on 140 lb Arches Cold Press.
Tess the Visula is a lovely dog, a very dignified princess. Her shiny textured short haired coat is a huge range of colour .....reds, oranges, pinks and browns. PG's comment "I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful job you did with Tess's watercolour. I was extremely surprised and amazed
Boscalla 2016 16" x 11" watercolour
Zireya 2016 16" x 11" watercolour
Boscalla is a very serious mare. Her companion Zireya sports a Trillium star. The duo was gifted by an understanding husband to his very surprised wife. Surprises are good.
PG's wife needed a really good Birthday present for the man who has everything plus an extensive very good collection of visual art.
SW gave herself a present. Flat Coated Retriever Rowansgaard Vita is a wonderful example of one of the founding breeds of both the British and American Kennel Clubs. Her piercing gaze is always searching for that next pick-up from the field. She was Susan's best buddy.
Brandy, Memory Lane is a recent wedding present from the group of stable friends. Brandy's kind eye spoke to her lovely nature. She was everyone's friend. Dl's comment on this perfect present "Brandy" was a huge success! Thank you again for your amazing talent
"Parvedean The Governor", a Welsh Section D Stallion, lived at Relhok Farm in Muskoka, Ontario's cottage country. He and his driver trainer Jeffery Kohler were a familiar site on the Brackenrig Road. They competec throughout Ontario and the Eastern United States in combined driving events.
Every once in a while a work has challenges. Such was the case with "the Gov". "Gov" was badly damaged, from heat & humidity, after exhibition. The surface foxed and bloomed. In effect the work was destroyed. The gesso layer and carrying board was not affected. All digital reference files are gone, the Gov had returned to Great Britain after his North American career. From a linear study and black & white record. Gov is completely new.
Pictures speak. Pictures came before words. Pictures are timeless. Pictures record our world.
